You Don't Have To Be A Rocket Scientist!
Steps To Getting On the Web:
-
What Is The Purpose Of The Website
- Do you need a "web pressence" or do you want to inform and educate. The
reasons can be varied; but it helps to know why you want to be on the web.
-
What Do You Expect From Your Website
- This is critical because many people do not have a clear understanding of
what the Internet can and can not do.
-
Website Name
- you need to decide what your name will be, then we can determine if that
name is available. Names can be up to 67 characters - using the Letters of the
Alphabet and Numbers 0 through 9. You can also use characters DASH or HYPHEN (
- ), but not as the First or Last character of the Name. While the selection
of a name is important, you need to remember that often getting a unique name
is difficult.
Designing Your Website
-
Look For Ideas
- There's really not a lot of fresh ideas out there because there are SO MANY
websites. Surf the web to see what you like. Write down those website and
what you like about them.
-
Write Down Your Ideas and Structure Them
- Most people will not scroll or pan on a web page, so don't try to put too
many ideas on a single page. Your Home Page is like an Index or Table of
Contents, designed to drive people to the other pages in your website.
-
Collect Pictures and Graphics
- Pictures you take are OK, but if you get them from someone else - you must
have permission. If you have Business Graphics you can use them; but, you
can't copy graphics from other websites.
